About Rampura Phul

Rampura phul is located in Bathinda district of Punjab. This small town has a very different lifestyle and you can experience bliss amongst lush greenery and serene surrounding around you. Most of the people stay here in houses made of mud and clay against the backdrop of beautiful mountains, and a vegetable garden at the backyard. All the villagers assemble together to chat every evening in the “Chopal” with their ‘hukkas’. This area also have some tribal people settled in here.


The people of this town are extremely warm and helpful. However , there are no particular tourist spot in the city. Some of the prominent areas of this town includes Agarwal colony, Mehraj basti, grain market, Patiala Mandi, Farid nagar and Rampura pind. Also, Rampura Phul was known for its handloom weaving and it was practised in most of the houses there.

History of Rampura Phul

This town is located between two villages of Rampura and Phul and thus the name Rampura Phul. A part of this town was founded by Phul in 1827 AD, the ancestor of the Phulkian family. Phul earlier used to come under Nabha State and was divided into 8 agwars surrounded by octagonal walls and pakka gate ways. Chaudhri Phul built the fort at Phul while another fort was built in Chotian Village by Prince Heera Singh of Nabha state. Prince. A railway station was set up between Rampura and Phul in 1918 paving way for markets to grow on both sides of railway track. Post independence, the town of Rampura Phul came under the Barnala District of Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU). It was then transferred to the Bathinda District of Punjab in 1954. Some of the renowned personality from this region includes Baba Ala Singh who was a Jat Sikh chieftain and also the founder of Patiala state.

Geography of Rampura Phul

Rampura Phul is located at longitude of 30°16'55N and latitude of 75°14'35E with an average elevation of 118 metres. It is placed on National highway 7 on Dehradun - Chandigarh - Bhatinda route on the bank of Tons river and is about 33 kms away from district town Bhatinda and about 182kms away from state capital Chandigarh. This river flows through Azamgarh before meeting Saryu river.The climate of Rampura Phul is semi arid and mainly dry with extreme weather experienced during summer and winters. The monsoon season extends from July to September and this city experiences cloudiness, high humidity and good rainfall. The winter season extends from October to February when the temperatures drop to as low as 10 degrees. March is the start of the summer with temperatures reaching to 38 degrees.
